February 4, 2026

The Daily Californian recently highlighted our partnership with BElovedBIRTH Black Centering, a Black-led prenatal and postpartum care model based at Highland Hospital.

The article features the Wallace Center’s role as a research partner, supporting the program through data collection and evaluation to strengthen and expand its impact.

BElovedBIRTH provides culturally aligned care for Black birthing people, including midwifery and doula services, group prenatal sessions, and wraparound supports such as childcare, housing, and nutrition resources.

Findings from a 2024 report show improved outcomes among participants, including lower rates of preterm birth and low birth weight, as well as babies being born later and at healthier weights.

This feature highlights the impact of community-led, evidence-based models advancing birth equity in Alameda County.
